Bringing the Museum into the World Language Classroom

Afternoon session

During the afternoon session, attendees participated in one-hour interactive break out activities on teaching emotions through a portrait gallery. These activities for teachers of all world languages were developed by Angelique Aristondo, Sarah Litvin, and Elissa Myers (Ph.D. candidates from the Museum Pedagogy in the Classroom Team at the Teaching and Learning Center, the Graduate Center, CUNY) in collaboration with Kelly Paciaroni (Italian Teacher at Pearl River High School and Ph.D. candidate at the Graduate Center, CUNY) and Monica Calabritto (Associate Professor at Hunter College and the Graduate Center, CUNY). Below you can find the materials used during this session. Click on “view / download” to access the materials.

For further information: please visit the website of The Teaching and Learning Center (https://tlc.commons.gc.cuny.edu/) and the Museum Pedagogy in the Classroom website (https://museumcuny.commons.gc.cuny.edu/).

Additional workshops: The Teaching and Learning Center offers weekly free professional development workshops for teachers throughout the semester. While their programs are geared toward college instructors, all are welcomed. Most sessions run 4pm-6pm.

For Italian teachers: Kelly Paciaroni further adapted the activities designed by the Museum Pedagogy in the Classroom Team and tested them in her own Italian classroom. Below you can find these materials used during the afternoon session for Italian teachers — these can be used immediately in a lower level Italian class, having all of the vocabulary, preparation, and instructions built in. Click on “view / download” to access the materials.
